For an Elizabethan audience Iago's wanton desire to cause disruption to the "natural order" is very frightening. His apparent lack of motive makes his malevolence even more disturbing does it not? He is evil incarnate, he cant even justify his actions to himself, he just does it cos hes a bastard.
