: Iago's motivations in the story basically start at the beginning when he is looked over for promotion. Here is a dedicated soldier with years of service and now he is being looked over for Liet. Then on top of that, everything else begins to fall apart in his life and he is trying to make some kind of justice, but really it is injustice when looked upon by an audience. I believe everything engulfed him all at once, thus the destruction of others and himself.
