Cultural Practice Not Islam to Blame
Ms Nasreens portrayal of the trials and tribulations faced by ordinary Bengali women is spot on. I myself, a Bengali male, have witnessed the worship of the male breadwinner and the neglect of the female 'burden'.
However, this is not a situation either condoned or encouraged by Islam. For example, when asked by a convert, who he should respect the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) stated: 'First your mother, second your mother, third your mother and fourth your father'.
Therefore I believe that Nasreen's views should be more directed towards cultural bias and practice rather than attacking Islam.
Her expulsion from Bangladesh should be fought by all decent and freedom-loving people.
Bangladesh is and shall always remain a moderate and tolerant Muslim nation, as prescribed by it's founding father, Mujibur Rahman.
