Not a comment, but a query. Do you number among
your membership "professional" poets, that is,
ones advanced in versification, and, more
specifically, prosody, with the obvious
concomitant syntactical,dictional, & wording
skills, in one sense, in addition to being
reasonably widely published (not on the unedited
Internet)in recognized fora, in the United States
or abroad. I inquire primarily because colloquies
with one conversant with the fundamentals and
essentials of an art (or,for that matter, pretty
much any thing else,may be stimulating; with one
who is not, it is like an artist attempting an
exchange on painting with one wholly unschooled
in the basics of the art. The former is trying to
speak of the Golden Section, or a tint, or,
distorted lineality, while the other is
concerned with size of stretchers, the
character of the frame, or how where the work
is hung. Or, even more common these days,the
latter, may have no interest even in these
superficialities, proclaiming he/she "doesn't
bother with all that technical stuff,those details
are unimportant and interfere with the flow of my
'creative' juices.I paint from the heart." (Of
course, that is not what Rivera meant.) It is
apparent that he does not paint from the mind,
for there seems little there, or from the spirit,
which he doubtless confuses with "gut feeling,"
Such individuals would flee frantically from a
surgeon, about to perform a procedure on them,
who happily and confidently asked the isting
anaesthesiologist if she knew which scalpel was
which, but sems nothing inane and absurd in
identifying scribbling as "poetry" for no reason
rational to one who has devoted decades to
learning, the techniques and mechanics to the end
of properly contributing, he fervently hopes,
to "the record of the best and happiest moments
of the happiest and best minds," as Mary's husband
put it.Forgive the length of my query,( comment,
after all).I run on so because I find so many
persons havelittle, if any idea, of which I speak.
