: : Please help, I am working on an argumentive term paper about Philip Larkin and his poem "Church Going". The thesis statment has to be one stating the literary concept of this poem. In my research I have found critisism on several differnt concepts. Now they are all running together and I am confused. Please HELP!
I would begin with the dual nature of the title. Both the observation that church is going, as in soon will be gone, and in Larkin's going frequently to visit. (the voice of the poem). Larkin seems to bend toward the idea that something might actually be going on inside, though no physical or sensate observation would lead to that.
