Maya Angelou wrote that poem from the stand point of a woman
being hared by men who view her as incompetent and unimportant
because of her gender. Her persona in the poem is of strength and a
strong willed woman. She is not necessarily depicting herself in the
poem, but she is depicting the strength of all women
