This poem is somewhat reflective of Frost's own life. He lost several children at a various young ages. These losses are in the work. What is one of the most interesting aspects of the poem is the portrayal of men's and women's emotions. They are shown to grieve very differently. Frost was known to enjoy discussing these types of differences.
