i believe that this poem can have two interpretations, there is no denying that it can be interpreted as a man observing nature, but all of the darkness and the fact that it is the darkest evening of the year convinced me that this man is a very lonely and unhappy person to be visiting the woods. And the fact that first graders recited the poem is not evidence that it is happy. Think of all the Dr. Seuss books that we have read, and when you really look at them they have a sad and deeper meanign as well
