: Will someone help me with this topic? I have to write a research topic on the Monumental Influences T.S. Elliot had on Mondern Poetry!
: Will someone please help! Thanks for your time!
I hope this isn't too late, but here's my "Eliot's
Influences' rant:
1. Subject: If memory serves, the last majr lit
movement before Eliot was the Romantics. All warm
& fuzzy 'the world loves us' stuff. Eliot was
writing about the aftermath of WW1, horrible,
depressing subjects. His imagery backs this up.
"That corpse you planted last year....' Ick.
2. Style: up til Eliot, it was still the same old
boring form: rhyming, four line stanzas, etc. He
started shortening the line, two feet per line
sometimes. Very new for this time!
3. Imagery: as mentioned, he moved away from
typical imagery, like pastoral crap, started
writing about the city, the subway, rush hour,
contemporay stuff. Also very new.
Hope this helps. Just compare his stuff to almost
anything written before 1900, and the differences
will jump out at you. His stuff is more like
modern poetry than anything that was written
before him. Good luck!
