Hello Laura,
I'm on the same boat as you. I'm writing an essay on a part of Kritik der reinen Vernunft. The help i can give you is to follow the way i found help: secondary literature.
If you can read german, try the book of Otfried Höffe. He writes clearly, and what's most interesting: He limits the quantity. Another great help always (english!) is of course the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
My guess is that reading something about a primary work is the best source of information, besides teachers. The help, advice and criticism of others appears helpfull for me when i have my own ideas. I advice you to do the same. Read and then ask help?
Good luck. Tell us about it if you found it.
