One major difference between the American Revolution and the French Revolution was the proximity of the aristocracy. America was simply a state rebelling, not and entire nation. It was just as bloody perhaps, but we didn't touch the aristocracy.
The revolutions, as in all revolutions, are a natural course of events. To the people involved they seem barbaric but they are a necessity. Nothing of lasting duration on this planet has been accomplished without rebellion and revolution either against the light or the darkness. To war is the nature of man because, FOR NOW, it is the process of growth and progress. The trick is to "know when to hold and know when to fold em, Know when to walk away and know when to run."
: In Adult Great Books we'r reading Reflections on the Revolution in France. He favors the American Revolution while deploring the French Revolution. Any thoughts? Also, I'm looking for some thoughtful questions to lead a discussion on this topic. Many thanks. Judy
