: : : what does aristotle mean by the term substance and do you find his concept of a prime mover compatable or incompatable with his ysis of substance and why?
: : In the Categories, Aristotle says, in effect, that there are a number of questions one can ask about something which one perceives. That is, there are categories of attributes which belong to an object, and by which it may be described. Substance is that which comprises the answer to the question: "What is it?"
: : Other categories include quanity (How much of it is there? How big is it?); quality (What color is it? How good is it?); position, state, etc.
: : When you read the Metaphysics, which you will need to do in order to answer your question, you will find that keeping definition of substance laid out in the Categories in mind will be most helpful.
Aristotle created the quagmire that IS metaphysics and should you doubt this then jugde the Metaphysics for what it is - namely, a guidebook to philosophical Hell.
