The Trail Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in Palo Alto, CA, and is dedicated to supporting parks and trails in the San Francisco Peninsula & South Bay Area through volunteer opportunities in trail construction and maintenance; mapping; and providing trail and park information.
The Trail Center's quarterly newsletter, The Trail Companion, includes a literary section in each issue called "Wild Lit." We welcome submissions of poetry and prose on themes of trails, parks, wilderness and the outdoors or human-powered recreation in the outdoors--hiking, horses, biking, climbing, camping, etc. Geographic settings should focus on the Bay Area, but other areas of California and the West are acceptable. Poems should be no more than 35 lines; prose pieces should be 250 words or less (although exceptions could be made for exceptional pieces). No compensation is available, but we will send two paper copies of the issue in which the poem(s) or literary work(s) appear. Copyright reverts to the author upon publication; with your permission, we would include the piece in our online version.
Deadlines for upcoming issues are March 4th (Spring 2000), June 2nd (Summer 2000), Sept. 8th (Fall 2000) and Dec. 8th (Winter 2001).
The paper version of The Trail Companion is distributed to members of the Trail Center and through selected locations in the San Francisco Peninsula and South Bay Area.
