: Sounds good to me if the shaft length is ok for your boat, it should be at least 1 foot under the water otherwise it will be very noisy in operation due to cavitation and the prop ing air from the surface, than pick the type, hand or remote, hand is the easiest to learn to control as you always know which way it's pointed, so if you can comfortably reach and use one from the front thats what I'd do. Remote also can make a mess on your boat floor as the cables are usually longer than you really need. Powerwise you have no problem. Remember don't put your electtronics on the same battery as the trolling motor as frequency maximizers used on the trolling motors to increase battery life and efficiencies will show up on your fishfinder.: Hello out there. I just purchased a 14ft, alumacraft fishing boat deep V and would like to know what model of Minkota trolling motor I should purchase? I talked to a salesperson at B Pro Shops and He recommended a Minkota Power Drive, model no# 40pd and a DC 175 battery. I want to use this for fishing with my 4 year old son at a Metropark inland lake. Will this be enough to pull my boat through the lake or do you suggest another type Minkota? Please keep my purchase price withing $400.
