Existentialism is a great philosophy to study. The best philosopher is only a subjective view. The best philosopher is relative. You should rephrase your question and ask something like who was one of the most influential philosophers. I would say pluto. It also depends on the shifts in views. Aquines and descartes was very influential for theological and the ontological views. Nietzsche and Sarte for existentialism. etc.
