Introducing a unique new online music experiment
The Violinproject
An Open Letter to everyone using the internet.
An invitation to share in artistic creativity, Date: July/August 2001
Much of the internet’s content exists due to generosity. Enormous amounts of valuable information are available for free, and much the same is happening on the digital music scene. As a violinist, I recognise the value of music in the modern world, and I invite you to join me in embracing the internet as the ultimate means of co-operative musical creativity.
I would personally be delighted to have your feedback on my entirely unique musical experiment. At www.geocities.com/violinproject a small number of acquaintances are testing an idea that, with your feedback, ideas and criticism, could become revolutionary. I, and in the future fellow artists, record my work and transfer it into the MP3 format. You, the global audience tell me exactly what you think of it through the message boards. Together, we discuss and experiment with creative ideas, and eventually a final take is made, and published on the internet.
At the moment, my helpers and I are still building the site, but if you follow the links the MP3 recordings you will see the first recordings I have been making. Please join me, whether you have any previous contact with classical and violin music or not, and help to make the world of music a more democratic place.
I look forward to meeting you personally at the Violinproject.
