On the contrary, I am not advising a full scale war of force at all. To do so would be profoundly foolish. I do however advise placing the fight behind enemy lines as often as possible, and attacking groups other than advancing combat units.
I did not detail anything near a complete strategy in my previous post, and I apologize for presenting the impression that I did.
A more detailed plan would include that attacks on Communist forces were only the most basic part of this. To accomplish those attacks, and carry out the most obvious part of war, it is still required that forces fall upon supply lines and opposing leaders, rather than only on advancing combat units. In addition to that is the psychological side of warfare, and the economic.
To succeed in holding ground would have required more extensive subversion than the Communists used, because although beliefs cannot be imposed, they can be encouraged. Also, investment in Vietnam as a country, and the encouragement of a more advanced economic structure would have been neccesary to encourage more Vietnamese to side with capitalism.
To be honest I am not sure that the United States possesed the skills neccesary for such a huge psychological effort.
Sorry about the misunderstanding. Mea culpa.
