The wording of the thirteenth amendment is such that slavery or involuntary servitude may be allowed as a punishment for those convicted of crime, however, I'm confident that the U.S. Supreme Court long ago rejected the idea that prisonsers may be treated as slaves of the state.
I am, however, not having much luck finding any ociated U.S. Supreme Court cases to support this.
