Depends on how you mean 'know'. If you mean 'be on a first name basis with' no. If you mean 'have heard of' probably no, those who did not know what they were supposed to do will be punished only lightly. 'Know' as in 'do good for', or 'do the will of', yes. If you're doing good for others, you're serving God, even if you don't know it.
