I would like to point out, both to you and to the people you are mocking, that the Bible was divinely inspired, not divinely dictated. A lot of the stuff in there is the civil law of old Israel, and some more is old cosmology. The intention of those laws, understood in context, was originally good, but not all the keepers of the law were all that great. In short, do good, and use your own mind and your own senses to determine how to get there. The goal is from God, but we lost the directions a long time ago, so we just have to follow the signs and ask at the rest stops.
