: Hi, I remember the 70's rock band Angel. I found this because I was doing a search on the band. Did you get any info on them? If so, could you possibly email it to me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks! :-) Tammy
I used to be friends with their drummer's cousin, who was a U.S. Marshall, and talented pianist in his own right. I think the drummer's name was Vinnie Marino, but I could be wrong about the Vinnie part. Angel wasn't an awful band, but I think their very striking look worked against them in the long run. Although they were highly promoted, I don't think they ever achieved much in the way of commercial viability, or artistic recognition.
Frank Zappa once cracked a whole song about Punky Meadows (introduced by very famous announcer Don Pardo) called "Punky's Lips", which can be found on the album "Lather". An instrumental arrangement from that song was on his "Roxy And Elsewhere" album and titled "I Promise Not To Come In Your Mouth." Needless to say, Mr. Zappa didn't think too highly of "Angel." A video of this song is on Zappa's critically acclaimed film "Baby Snakes".
Sorry, this probably isn't the sort of memory you wanted to hear, but really, that's about the extent of impact that they made on the music industry.
All the best,
