: Were Confederate Army officers offered service in the Union Army after the Civil War, or only parolled (or pardoned)?
Several CSA officers received commissions in the
US Volunteers (wartime appointments) during the Spanish-American War.--Fitzhugh Lee and Joe Wheeler come to mind.
Lee eventually became a brigadier general in the U. S. Army from Feb. 11, 1901 to March 2, 1901 and Wheeler was
a briggen. in the US Army from June 16 to Sept. 10, 1900.
