the main reason they had a duel was because of an electoin that burr lost. bur was tied with jefferson, both with 73 votes, and hamilton voted for jefferson and urged his fellow federalists to do the same, even though he disliked jefferson greatly. hamilton's dislike for jefferson was only equaled with his dislike for burr. he hated burr and thought him a dangerous man who should definitely not be in government. i would write more but i have to go finish my essay on this history making duel.
