: : : Anyone want to talk about "Esme"? yes, this is Mario from Argentina and I would like someone to clarify very briefly what this is story is about, since I read it last weekend and I found it a little confusing, mainly after the second half of the story, when Salinger introduces this "sargeant X"
: : Thank you very much!!!
: The story starts as to say "X" is totally not about the war and would rather be reading a book (stuffs books in his gas mask bag) than shooting a rifle with his imperceptibly itching trigger finger. He carries on about the war and Esme is basically there to keep him levelheaded (like his wife.) A total opposite of "X" is Clay (Z.) Esme's nice attitude toward "X" is payed off by the stiry "X" writes for her.
