Hi,
I am a Molecular Biology major taking Greek Mythology as an elective. I need some advice for my 1st essay. I'm just wondering which would be the best to use. And suggestions or ideas would be great. I'm a science person and having difficulty with this stuff. Please e-mail me. Thanks! Here are the topics:
1) Compare the treatments of Earth (Gaia) in Hesiod's Theogony and in Homeric Hymn 30. In the potrayal of her in the hymn, what would you expect to see after the events described in Hesiod's poem?
2) Look through the shorter Honeric Hymns and find all the references to clothing, to physical appearance, or to some other common feature. Formulate a general thesis about that feature and its role in the hymns.
3) Examine the references to hunting in the Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite (5) and explain how they relate to Aphrodite.
4) We already saw a version of the Typhoeus story in Hesiod's Theogony (820-68), but the author of the Homeric Hymn to Apollo has his own reasons for including the story. What differences do you see in this story that may explain why it is used here?
