I read Lomask's book and the Flexner book on Hamilton and the six-parter on Jefferson (author's name escapes me). Burr is one of the most fascinating figures in the early republic's history. There is no compeling evidence that Bur's activities in the trans-montane were -- at least not by American Law, maybe Spanish, and there seems to me to be compelling evidence that Jefferson backed Burr's efforts until Wilkinson betrayed the whole thing to Spain.

As to Hamilton, I have concluded that had Burr not shot Hamilton, he (Hamilton) would rank with Gallatin and Jay as important but little known characters in the early days. Alex owes Aaron his immortalty.
