I am not speaking about political parties. Democracy and Republic are not synonymous. Several of the founders actually thought that a democracy was the worst form of goverment; it was considered to be "mobocracy" that is to say "mob rule." Our Constitution guarantees a republican form of government. The USA is not a democracy but is a representative republic. Citizens in a community elect members from among them to represent them in the House of Representatives. The Electoral College was established to contribute a balance to prevent mob rule. Neither the Senate nor the President were elected directly by the citizens.
