THe problem is that America was never intended to be a democracy. It was a Federal Republic. We keep changing the governmental structure and are now a semi-democratic bureaucracy. Most power rests in Washington. The Founders never intended the Federal goverment to grow so large.
The vast majority of our laws are regulatory. They are not made by elected representives. Laws are made by unelected government agencies.
