Robyn, most would say not to write in the 2nd person. Here are some reasons to write in the 2nd person. I ume that's what you mean when you say 2nd viewpoint. When you use you, we, us, our, ours, ourself, etc. you directly address your reader and bring them into the story with you in a personal way. Alan Paton in "Cry the Beloved Country" uses seconed person in the opening chapter and elsewhere. His opening chapter is a clical geographical descriptive
chapter; one which many teachers of writing believe to be among the best, as it gives the country itself a persona. Hope this helps.
