Margaret Thatcher was a right wing Conservative (part of the British New Right of the late 70s) and believed in large tax cuts, cuts in public spending and a radical reduction in the role of the welfare state. She advocated monetarist policies, individualism and a large scheme of privatisation of state owned industries in order to make the economy more competitive and reduce the size of the state.
