You neglect only that belief in God, when there is not a God, loses you nothing, provided you do not expect devine intervention and do not put faith in theology or theologicly backed science.
On the other hand, disbelief in God, especially deliberate disparagement of God, if there is a God, can lose you a great deal. Not neccesarily everything, because only Islam (as far as I know) actually says that just failing to believe can get you d*mned (bugger the CDA!), and even then you can avoid it if you're a good tightrope walker. In Judaism and Christianity belief in FALSE gods can get you in serious trouble, but although atheism can get you kicked around, salvation is by love/works, not opinion. In Buddhism, you have to accept some opinions to accomplish your tasks, but none of them are particularly metaphysical. In Hinduism, you have to accept Brahman (God) eventually, but you are allowed to wait for proof, which you will eventually get, if you are looking. The various animisms and paganisms cannot really be pinned down on any one answer, but most tend to universalism.
So I advise tentative faith, love for humanity, and slackwire practice. That covers all the bases.
