Even though I haven't read the original (I don't speak old French yet) I love the unabridged. I have read it of my own volition (we'll read it anyway next year in 10th grade hn. seminar) and I loved it to death. If anyone could recommend similar books I would be much appreciative.

Hey- still in high-school! - me too! I haven't read Les Miserables yet but I adore clic novels. Maybe you should try Austen (don't see any of the movies first though- it totally ruins it!). Personally Mansfield park is my favorite.
