Wordsworth: The Prelude, Book X (French Revolution)
For the ppl who have read Wordsworth's The Prelude:
I have to do a presentation on Book X: Residence in France & The French Revolution (the 1805 version)...but there are some lines in this book of which I'm not sure what Wordsworth actually means with them:
Line 10-13: "Dire cloud, upon ... had burst innocuously"
What does WW mean by "the tender mercies of the dismal wind"?
Line 20-23: Who is meant by "them whose fancies had grown rank with evil expectations: confidence and perfect triumph to the better cause"?
Line 27-29: What is meant by "in a spirit of thanks to those who had stirred up her slackening faculties to a new transition"?
Line 61-62: "With unextinguished paper I kept watch, rading at intervals." What does WW mean by this? Is this still a part of the metaphor of the "volume whose contents he knows are memorable..." (line 50)?
I hope there's anyone that can (and is willing to) help me, I'd be happy to help out in return!
Thx,
Silvah
