: Looking for information and ideas regarding the LaHaye and Jenkins series, "Left Behind." Any ideas regarding Biblical authenticity, etc. Have you read it? Agree/disagree? Ideas?
: Reactions?
: thanks!
The book series has, of course, broken all kinds of sales records and has had wide exposure both in Christian and secular markets.
As the name implies, "left behind" is all about the events leading to the end of this age, starting with a 'rapture' of believers as they are removed from earth, leaving everyone else.
There are several schools of thought as to exactly how the endtimes will play out. (they are referred to by where they put the Church during the prophesied great tribulation: pre-trib, post-trib or amillenial)
Because the Bible gives many clues about the end-times but few direct tangible statements, sincere Christians can and do disagree about which of the interpretations is most accurate. The 'Left Behind' series is based on a more literal, pre-tribulation interpretation of how endtime events could take place. in other words, the story is one way how the world could end according to the Bible. But, there are other ways.
There are some main elements of end times interpretations which are always sure: a time of great trouble, the bodily return of Christ to the earth, the destruction and punishment of all evil, and the judgment of all souls.
These events are described in the books of Revelation and Daniel; endtimes are also discussed in 1&2 Thessalonians, Romans, Mark and Matthew. So we can see for for ourselves. But the matter requires serious study, and some never arrive at a concrete conclusion about this elusive topic.
