i have a few questions regarding the writing of john donnne, in meditation 17
1)what is donne referring to at the beginning of the poem, regarding the bells that are tolling?
2) donne builds up very carefully to the famous sentance: "no man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent. A part of the main."
a) what other images does he use in the meditation to express the idea that human beings do not exist in isolation, that everyone is a part of common humanity?
b) how is this idea related to the theme of the tolling of the bell, summarized in "..never send to know for whom the bell tolls: it tolls for thee"?
if u could help me answer these questions i would really appreciate it, these are the only questions i didn't get out of the 32!
