I have a Treasure Island book very similar to what you described, I almost wonder if it's identical?! Do you have a picture of it you can scan? I could send you a picture of mine and see if it's the same. I cannot find out anything about mine either. And it too doesn't have a copyright.

: I found a copy of Treasure Island, it looks old in that it is a smaller book than we publish today (tan with green lettering; the print inside is inconsistent in hue which leads me to believe we have come a long way in technology). It has no date in it but does have some loose slips of paper dated 1930's. Hurst Company of NY was the publisher. I am sure it was not an 1800 edition but I still would like to know when it was published and why there is no date.
