: : Just cannot understand why reading 'The Rainbow'-arguably his finest work- is out of fashion!
: : Everybody seems to have this fixation on the in 'Lady Chatterley's Lover' or 'Sons and Lovers'...
: I love Lawrence' writing but I do find Rainbow a bit long-winded. His Sons And Lovers is by far a better book. If I were to recomend his work to any one, Sons and lovers will be my choice, not Rainbow which drags at times. It is great writing no doubt, but one may get bogged down and eventually get ed off by the author's messages. I read that book when I was in my early twenty. I may be wrong.
You are. The Rainbow is filled with such rich imagery it's hard to take and if it drags it's only because you're not reading it carefully enough. I tend to linger over the pages, the syntax is incredible. Take another look, I don't think The Rainbow is out of fashion, au contraire it is as timeless today as ever.
