Many years ago I believe I read that Nelson Algren treated himself for tuberculosis by riding atop a freight car from Pittsburgh to New York taking deep gulps of the cold, fresh air one harsh winter day. Have you read or heard this tale? Is it true? Can it be found in print somewhere? Please email me if you know anything about this. Thanks, Terry
