BEACONRAY'S GREAT BOOKS BOOKSTORE
SURFING THE WAVE OF THE CULTURAL REVOLUTION
(and making it bigger too)

The BeaconRay Charter

Western Civilization is powered by two mainsails-- freedom and moral responsibility. If ever one of these sails should become tattered, the noble spiritual ship the free world sails upon will be placed in danger of being overcome by big government pirates or daytime TV talkshow buccaneers, or something. The founders of BeaconRay's Great Books Bookstore believe the purpose of an education is to hoist these two sails within the consciousness of those who own the world's future so as to ensure that they will prosper by the Truth's wind. The written word forms the fabric of these sails, and if ever people should stop reading the works which comprise the Western Heritage, the white canvas shall rot and tear. With today's academic institutions' general dismissal of the Great Books in favor of the inferior works of liberally politicized pedants, combined with the relentless assault on the young with the crass glamorization of perpetual intoxication, sex, drugs, and rock'n roll by the liberally dominated media industry, the Western Soul is in danger of being eroded. And that's where we come in on this crisp day, hinting of Autumn, in late September, 1995.
For we've been walkin' the streets, and we contend that this liberally-labeled "slacker/grunge" generation is composed of people. It is our belief that the vast majority of our peers, when given a choice between pornography, cynicism, nihilism, and poetry, will choose the exalting poetry. But MTV and Rolling Stone are failing to offer us an alternative to alternative. The faith we harbor in our brethern is allowing us to do what the liberal religion prevents liberal professors and media moguls from doing-- it is allowing us to found a bookstore dedicated to selling the timeless truths that the great souls deemed worthy of setting in stone. Because the belief that Truth exists lives harmoniously with our conservative philosophy, we thus have great faith in our product. Go to college for your transcript, as you have not a choice, and go to the Great Books for your education, where you can acquaint yourself with the immortal piece of Plato.

Some of BeaconRay's Great Books are the classics that have been silently removed from University curriculums. Others are contemporary books which speak the thoughts of the people who are busy making this nation work on a daily basis and yet are utterly ignored or detested by the postmodernists, the feminists, the multiculturalists, the deconstructionists, and the liberal bureaucrats who dominate the educational country clubs where the resentniks congregate. Inspite of the fact that he is the greatest poet of our era, serving the people with his talent, you will not see Rush Limbaugh taught at an Ivy League college, yet.

An issue of The Princeton Alumni Weekly a couple years back was entitled, The Death of Literature. And I agree-- within the iron gates of my alma mater, literature has all but ceased to be. How proud the professors must be to linger on after having murdered their raison d'etre. The leading pedants at Princeton said that everything was political, and then they eradicated standards and made it that way. They said words didn't mean things, and then made the poetry and prose they authored follow suit, so that skin color, gender, and sexual preferences might suffice. Thus English departments became easier to run, as the bureaucrats only had to be able to see skin deep and count, and intellectually indifferent managemnet men and women of all sexual orientations rose through the administrative ranks. But literature was never written to give pedants jobs, and literature, like Reality, is indifferent to what resentniks think.

For Great Literature resides within the human spirit, and the Classic Books are but the most finely polished mirrors which we hold up infront of ourselves so as to gaze into our souls. At BeaconWay Press we're composing new works in the rich context of the Western Canon, and here, at BeaconRay's Great Books Bookstore, we're selling the books that form that context. We hope to foster a contemporary popular culture where words again mean things, and the crass and vulgar are defeated not by censorship, which runs against the spirit of this great nation, but by the subtle and endearing.
